Launch of LSAM 10 (Yard 78) Missile Cum Ammunition Barge

On 20th November 2023, the fourth Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 10 (Yard 78), as part of the project to build 08 such barges for the Indian Navy, was successfully launched at M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL) in Visakhapatnam. This significant event took place at Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, which serves as the launch site for M/s SEPPL. The launch ceremony was presided over by Cmde Shanmugam Sabesan, CRO (East).

 

The contract for constructing these eight Missile Cum Ammunition Barges was formalized between the Ministry of Defence and M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd on 19th February 2021. The introduction of these barges will significantly bolster the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy, streamlining the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition for IN Ships, both at jetties and outer harbours.

 

These indigenously designed and constructed barges adhere to the Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The model testing phase during the barge’s design was conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam. These LSAM 10 (Yard 78) barges stand as proud symbols of the Make in India initiative of the Government of India, reflecting a significant stride in indigenous manufacturing and naval capabilities.
