Delivery of Third Missile Cum Ammunition Barge for INS Tunir at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai

The third of eight Missile Cum Ammunition Barges, LSAM 9 (Yard 77), part of a project undertaken by MSME Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam for the Indian Navy, was delivered on November 22, 2023, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai for INS Tunir. The induction ceremony was overseen by Cmde Ashish Sehgal, Command Refit Officer, Western Naval Command.

 

The agreement to construct these eight barges was signed between the Ministry of Defence and M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam on February 19, 2021. These barges aim to support the operational commitments of the Indian Navy by aiding in the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of ammunition and articles for IN ships, both docked at jetties and in outer harbours.

 

Designed and constructed in compliance with the relevant Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), these barges underwent model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam. These barges stand as a testament to the Make in India initiative by the Government of India (GoI).
