National Defence Academy Marks 75 Years of Exceptional Service to the Nation
The National Defence Academy (NDA) proudly celebrates its 75th anniversary, commemorating a journey that has left an indelible mark on the fabric of India’s Armed Forces and nation-building. Since its inception in 1949, the NDA has been a robust crucible, shaping officers not only for the prosecution of war but also for instilling excellence in diverse fields, producing leaders who contribute significantly to India’s progress.
The 75 Glorious Years Celebrations (75-GYC) commenced on January 19, 2023, unveiling a logo symbolizing the tri-services essence with the three service colours and the theme ‘Forging Joint Military Leadership.’ The year-long celebration showcased NDA’s vast accomplishments through ceremonial activities, outreach activities, and adventure activities.
Ceremonial activities highlighted the multifaceted aspects of NDA and events spanning an entire training year. Outreach activities communicated the Academy’s mission nationwide, emphasizing awareness about its legacy among the emerging generation. Adventure activities instilled a sense of adventure in cadets, providing exposure and opportunities to connect with diverse regions of India.
As part of the celebrations, a melodious tribute titled ‘Bharat Maa Tujhe Salaam’ was commissioned, emphasizing NDA’s role in shaping future leaders of the Indian Armed Forces. On November 30, 2023, Smt Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, released a First Day Cover, Stamp, and a Commemorative Coin. The celebration also included a car rally from Clement Town to Pune, paying tribute to Operation ‘Badli’ and marking the 75th anniversary of shifting the academy.
The culmination of the 75 Glorious Years Celebration from January 14 to January 16, 2024, featured a Leadership Seminar on ‘Forging Joint Military Leadership’ by eminent military and civilian luminaries at NDA. A Wreath Laying Ceremony on January 16 at the Hut of Remembrance, attended by alumni and service chiefs, paid homage to the historic symbol of sacrifice. The Grand Finale provided an opportunity for interaction between alumni and cadets over games and a cultural evening.
A short film capturing the essence of a cadet’s life was unveiled, serving as a timeless tribute to NDA’s credo of valour, duty, and honour. The celebration highlighted that NDA is not just an institution but a living testament to the enduring spirit of the nation, serving as a beacon of excellence and professionalism for generations to come.
