Indian Navy Ship INS Sunayna Enhances Interoperability and Cooperation During Port Call in South Africa

INS Sunayna, an Indian Navy ship, arrived at the port of Durban, South Africa on August 21, 2023. During its journey, the ship engaged in a passage exercise with the South African Navy Ship SAS King Sekhukhune I off the coast of Durban. Following this exercise and an exchange of pleasantries at sea, the ship entered the Durban harbor. The ship’s arrival was greeted by Cdr Kenneth Singh, who was officiating as the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Base Durban, along with officials from the High Commission of India in Pretoria.

 

The primary purpose of this visit, aside from commemorating the 30 years of diplomatic partnership between India and South Africa, is to strengthen interoperability, joint efforts, and mutual cooperation between the Indian Navy and the South African Navy. During the port call, both navies will engage in sharing best practices and experiences through professional interactions, subject matter expert exchanges, and cross-deck visits. Additionally, there will be social interactions with senior military and civil dignitaries from both countries. This visit aims to enhance the collaboration between the two nations’ navies and deepen their ties.
