In a landmark move, the ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) – INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Sudarshini, and ICGS Sarathi – embarked on a historic visit to Phuket, Thailand from September 25 to September 28, 2023, as part of a long-range training deployment. This significant event was met with a warm reception from the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), complete with a vibrant display by the RTN band.

During their stay, Captain Sarvpreet Singh, Senior Officer of 1TS, along with the Commanding Officers of the ships, paid a courtesy visit to Rear Admiral Puchong Rodnikron, the Chief of Staff at the Third Naval Area Command. A reception hosted on board INS Tir welcomed Chief of Staff, Third Naval Area Command, RTN officers, and members of the Indian Diaspora. Additionally, the ships opened their decks to visitors, including schoolchildren who were given guided tours.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for the trainees of 1TS to tour the Naval Academy at Phang Nga Naval Base. The engagement between the personnel of both navies extended beyond cultural exchanges to include cross-training visits, professional interactions, sports fixtures, and joint yoga sessions. As part of the Maritime Training Partnership Exercise with the Royal Thai Naval Ship Klaeng, various activities were conducted, including cross embarkation of trainees, maneuvers, and approaches for replenishments at sea.

This historic visit not only reinforces maritime connections but also strengthens the enduring friendship between the Indian and Thai navies, marking a significant milestone in bilateral maritime cooperation.
