Russian Naval Ships Visit to Kochi on a Goodwill Visit

Russian Naval Ships ‘Varyag’ and ‘Marshal Shaposhnikov’ stopped at Kochi from 6-9 August 2024 on a goodwill visit. The ships were accorded a warm welcome by the Indian Navy in the background of fanfare by the naval band. Captain 1st Anatoly Velichko, Flag Officer onboard Russian ship along with commanding officers of both warships called on chief of staff, Southern Naval Command Rear Admiral Upal Kundu on 6 August 24 and discussed matters of maritime interest. The ships are on their return passage to Russia after port call at Kochi.

During the visit, professional interactions, cross deck visits, social engagements and friendly sports fixtures are scheduled between the two sides. The visit of Russian naval ships underscore the strong maritime cooperation and partnership between the two navies.
