Royal Thailand Navy Delegation Explores Collaboration in Ship Design with Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau

A three-member delegation from the Royal Thailand Navy (RTN) conducted a visit to the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau (WDB) in New Delhi on September 4th and 5th, 2023. This visit marks a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the two Navies in the domains of ship design and construction, following bilateral discussions during the 12th IN-RTN staff talks. The delegation, accompanied by Capt Jakarin from RTN, Defence Attache, engaged in discussions with RAdm IB Uthaiah, Director General of WDB, covering various aspects of ship design and construction.

 

During the visit, the delegation received an extensive overview of the Warship Design Bureau and witnessed the progression of indigenous naval shipbuilding in India. They were provided insights into various facilities, design tools, adopted best practices, model testing capabilities, and the indigenous equipment manufacturing ecosystem within the country. In-depth discussions on diverse facets of ship design and construction took place with subject matter experts at the Warship Design Bureau. As part of their itinerary, the delegation is also slated to visit Goa Shipyard Limited to observe the various construction technologies employed by the shipyard.

 

This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering collaborative efforts in maritime defense capabilities, further strengthening the strategic partnership between the Royal Thailand Navy and the Indian Navy.
