Launch Of Second Mca Barge, Yard 76 (LSAM 8)

At M/S Secon Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam

On August 18, 2023, the launch of the second Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, Yard 76 (LSAM 8), marked a significant milestone in naval development. The launch took place at Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, specifically at the launch site of M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd. The event was graced by Cmde G Ravi, Warship Production Superintendent (Visakhapatnam).

Yard 76 (LSAM 8) is the second in a series of MCA Barges and is a testament to India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The barge boasts a range of major and auxiliary equipment and systems, all sourced from indigenous manufacturers. This achievement aligns perfectly with the “Make in India” initiative of the Ministry of Defence.

The contract for the construction of eight MCA Barges was awarded to M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, based in Visakhapatnam. This engagement with a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) is in harmony with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiatives of the Government of India. The MCA Barge has been designed for a service life of 30 years, signifying its durability and longevity.

The availability of MCA Barges significantly enhances the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. These barges facilitate the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to Indian Navy ships, both alongside jetties and at outer harbors. This development bolsters the Indian Navy’s readiness and responsiveness, aligning with its mission to safeguard India’s maritime interests.
