HENSOLDT Equips US Coast Guard’s “Legend” Class National Security Cutters with Advanced Naval Radars

HENSOLDT, a leading sensor solutions provider, is set to provide the US Coast Guard’s “Legend” class National Security Cutter (NSC) with its renowned TRS-3D multi-mode naval radar. This follows a recent contract award from the US Coast Guard, valued at approximately $10 million, for the delivery of another radar in its latest ‘Baseline D’ version. This radar will be installed at the Coast Guard training center (TRACEN) in Petaluma, California. To date, HENSOLDT has supplied 12 radars for the US Coast Guard’s NSC program.

HENSOLDT’s CEO, Thomas Müller, emphasized, “With over 50 radars in active service with Coast Guards and Navies globally, our TRS-3D naval radar has demonstrated its exceptional capabilities. We are committed to ensuring our customers benefit from ongoing technological advancements.”

The TRS-3D Baseline D, known as AN/SPS-75 in the US, leverages gallium nitride (GaN) and solid-state emitter technology to maintain the traditional robust performance of the TRS-3D while enhancing reliability and providing avenues for future development. HENSOLDT’s TRS-3D radars have been integrated into every NSC since the program’s inception. The TRS-3D is a three-dimensional, multi-mode naval radar designed for air and surface surveillance, target acquisition, self-defense, gunfire support, and aircraft control. It autonomously detects and tracks various types of air and sea targets, reducing crew workload.

With decades of expertise in radar technology, HENSOLDT is at the forefront of advancing key technologies in this field. In addition to naval and ground-based air defense radars, the company’s portfolio encompasses fighter radars, as well as ground surveillance and space radars.
