HENSOLDT UK Empowers Visually Impaired Veterans Ski Trip 2024 in the Italian Dolomites
HENSOLDT UK, a leading sensor solutions specialist, proudly continues its steadfast support for the Visually Impaired Veterans Ski Club (VIVSC), contributing to an extraordinary skiing experience for visually impaired veterans in Canazei, Italy every January.
Funding events of this magnitude are no small feat, and HENSOLDT UK’s instrumental support has been a beacon of commitment. Following a generous donation of £2,000 last year, the company has increased its support to £4,000 this year, sponsoring the attendance of four veterans. This dedication has earned HENSOLDT UK the prestigious Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award, reflecting its unwavering commitment to the community and armed forces.
The annual ski trip, with a rich history spanning over 45 years, has been transformative for blind and visually impaired veterans, providing them with confidence and freedom on the snow under the guidance of experienced volunteers. The visually impaired participants, with varying degrees of blindness, face both challenging and rewarding experiences. Guides, all ex-military unpaid volunteers, accompany blind skiers of all age groups, ensuring a safe and life-changing adventure.
Marc Condon, Head of Internationalisation at HENSOLDT Optronics, was honoured to be part of the trip, gaining firsthand insights and commencing training as a potential guide for blind skiers. Reflecting on his experience, Marc stated, “Guiding was the true highlight of my week. The trust here is absolute. Those who are blind ski in front of the guide under directions using headsets, and those with some visibility will follow. Trust is the only thing that gets these amazing men and women from top to bottom in one piece.”
