GE Aerospace to Invest INR 240 Crore in Pune Manufacturing Facility Expansion

Following its recent listing as a standalone company on the New York Stock Exchange, GE Aerospace has announced a substantial investment of over INR 240 crore (~USD 30 million) to expand and enhance its manufacturing facility located in Pune.

This significant investment underscores GE Aerospace’s commitment to bolstering its manufacturing capabilities and supporting planned production increases. The funds will be utilized to acquire cutting-edge machines, equipment, and specialized tools, as well as to augment the facility’s capacity to accommodate new projects and manufacturing processes.

Mike Kauffman, Vice President of Global Supply Chain at GE Aerospace, expressed his satisfaction with the expansion, stating, “Our team at the Multi-modal Manufacturing facility in Pune maintains a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivering for our customers. I am delighted to see the expansion at this site, which has already become a significant contributor to our global supply chain of aircraft engine components.”

Amol Nagar, Managing Director of GE Aerospace’s Pune facility, highlighted the investment’s significance in fostering aerospace growth in India, enabling the company to meet the rising demand from customers effectively.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in February 2015, the Pune facility specializes in producing components for commercial jet engines, which are subsequently supplied to GE’s global factories for assembly. Notably, the facility plays a pivotal role in manufacturing components for prominent engine models such as G90, GEnx, GE 9X (the world’s most powerful commercial jet engine), and LEAP engines by CFM, a joint venture between GE and Safran. Since its inception, the facility has also played a crucial role in nurturing local aerospace manufacturing talent, having trained over 5000 individuals in specialized aerospace precision manufacturing processes.

Furthermore, the facility holds certifications under ISO14001 and ISO45001, underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability and community stewardship. Notable environmental initiatives include sourcing 30% of power consumption from renewable sources, implementing zero liquid discharge practices, recycling and reusing 100 million liters of water annually, and recycling 20 metric tons of plastic.

This strategic investment not only reinforces GE Aerospace’s commitment to excellence but also demonstrates its dedication to fostering aerospace manufacturing innovation and sustainability in India and beyond.
