Delivery of Second Indigenous Missile Cum Ammunition Barge (LSAM 8)

In alignment with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative of the Indian Government, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME), has completed the contract for the construction and delivery of 08 Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barges. The second barge of this series, LSAM 8 (Yard 76), was handed over to the Indian Navy on October 19, 2023, in the presence of Shri Puneet, INAS, Chief General Manager, NAD(Mbi). Built under the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) classification rules with a service life of 30 years, the barge boasts a complement of major and auxiliary equipment/systems sourced from indigenous manufacturers. This achievement stands as a testament to the “Make in India” initiatives of the Ministry of Defence. The introduction of the MCA Barge will greatly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy, streamlining the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition for Indian Naval Ships, both at jetties and outer harbours.
