COSC and CNS Admiral Sunil Lanba visits Mozambique and Tanzania

Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) and Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Sunil Lanba was on a visit to Mozambique and Tanzania from 23-30 July 2017. The visits aim was to consolidate bilateral defence relations with Mozambique and Tanzania, as also to explore new avenues for defence cooperation.

The CNS held bilateral discussions with minister of national defence Atanásio Salvador M’tumuke, Chief of General Staff General Graça Tomás Chongo, Commander of Mozambican Army Maj. Gen. Eugènio Dias da Silva, Commander of Mozambican Navy Rear Admiral Eugénio Dias Da Silva, Commander of Mozambican Air Force Maj Gen Andrè Niposso. The Admiral also visited the Instituto Superior De Estudos De Defesa (ISEDEF), where he interacted with Commandant and faculty.

On completion of his visit to Mozambique, the CNS further visited Tanzania from 26 July 2017, where he held bilateral discussions with the president of Tanzania John Magafuli, minister of defence and national service Dr Hussei Mwinyi, minister of foreign affairs Dr Augustine Mahiga, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Venance S Mabeyo and the three Tanzanian People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Service Chiefs. The Admiral also visited the Command and Staff College, Arusha, where he interacted with the Commandant and faculty.

Indian Armed Forces cooperate with Armed Forces of Mozambique and Tanzanian on many fronts, which include training, hydrography, participation in each other’s defence events etc through Joint Defence Working Group (JDWG) with Mozambique and exchange of High-level visits with Tanzania.
