BEL Wins Order for Akash Missile Systems for IAF

The surface-to-air Akash missile systems, designed and developed by DRDO and produced by BEL, will be provided to seven more squadrons of IAF

Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) announced it had signed a contract with the ministry of defence, government of India, on 13 September 2019, for procurement of seven squadrons of Akash Missile System for the Indian Air Force.




“This is a turnkey contract with specialist infrastructure. The total value of the contract is Rs. 5,357 crores and the delivery will be completed in 3 years. These systems will be commissioned at seven Air Force locations spread across Pan India,” a statement released by BEL said.

The surface-to-air Akash missile systems, designed and developed by DRDO and produced by BEL, will be provided to seven more squadrons of IAF, earlier, BEL had supplied the medium range defence system to the IAF in 2015-16.
