Op Sindoor showcased India’s ability to expand the operational bandwidth of conventional force within a nuclear context, thereby resetting the escalatory ladder and tilting it in India’s favour. India demonstrated its capacity to dictate terms of engagement and maintain escalation dominance. The precision strikes extended across Pakistan’s heartland, targeting key military and terrorist infrastructure from Karachi to Rawalpindi, challenging the past nuclear blackmail that Pakistan earlier resorted to.

Institutionalising a “new normal” for counter-terrorism

Op Sindoor further institutionalized a policy of prompt and harsh military retaliation for major terrorist provocations. The targeted bombing of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, along with the elimination of UN-sanctioned terrorists, reaffirmed India’s zero-tolerance approach to cross-border terrorism.
