No matter how good or bad one’s year has been, end of every year fills us with inexplicable longing; urgency for fulfilment of imagined and unimagined desires; and hope that the coming year would be better than the one gone by.

Of course, renewed optimism barely survives the first week of the New Year. But at least it helps us make a positive beginning.
