Discussions on threats generated on account of digital frauds, cyber-crimes and artificial technology (AI), particularly the potential of deep fake to disrupt social and familial relations dominated the 59th All India Conference of Directors General/Inspectors General of Police. The conference, held recently in Bhubaneswar, also heard animated discussions on existing challenges to national security, including counter terrorism, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), economic security, immigration, coastal security and narco-trafficking.
The event, spread over three days (November 29-December 1), turned out to be an interactive platform for senior police professionals and security administrators in the country to freely discuss and debate diverse national security-related issues, as also various operational, infrastructural and welfare-related problems faced by the police in India. The top cops shared professional practices and processes in tackling challenges relating to crime control and law and order management, besides internal security threats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the meet and discussed various subjects on policing and security with the top police officers of the country. While around 250 officers in the ranks of Director General of Police (DGP) and Inspectors General of Police (IGP) were present physically at the conference, more than 750 others participated virtually.
