Siemens and BAE Systems Sign Five-Year Agreement to Accelerate Digital Innovation
Siemens and BAE Systems have announced a new five-year agreement that will see the two businesses collaborate on advancing digital transformation in engineering and manufacturing technologies. This partnership aims to leverage Siemens’ cutting-edge digital capabilities throughout the program lifecycles, deploying technology from the Siemens Xcelerator open business platform to revolutionise engineering and manufacturing processes through FalconWorks®, BAE Systems’ research and development division within its Air sector.
This agreement marks a significant step forward in exploring and developing a strategic blueprint for the future of engineering and manufacturing. It builds on the recent deployment of Siemens’ NX™ software for product engineering and Teamcenter® software for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. The collaboration will also harness edge computing solutions and technology validation, which have already been successfully utilised across various catapult and technology centres.
The new framework will facilitate regional and international collaboration in the areas of Sustainability, Industrial Digitalisation, and Supply Chain Modernisation. Siemens Digital Industries and BAE Systems will work together to develop and implement this framework, aiming to accelerate the commercial benefits of technology exploitation and adaptation for BAE Systems.
This partnership builds on decades of successful collaboration between Siemens and BAE Systems, which has included technology development, knowledge sharing, and joint showcases at industry forums. The agreement will continue previous initiatives focused on innovating and developing new digital manufacturing approaches, supporting BAE Systems’ Factory of the Future initiative.
Brian Holliday, Managing Director at Siemens Digital Industries in the UK and Ireland, commented: “This agreement builds on a well-established, successful collaboration between BAE Systems and Siemens, both of which are committed to advancing manufacturing careers and innovation. Technology is transforming manufacturing rapidly, and we are proud to partner with BAE Systems at the forefront of Industry 4.0 in the UK.”
Holliday added, “This partnership exemplifies Siemens’ broader vision for collaboration through Siemens Xcelerator, which is centred on a digital portfolio, ecosystem thinking, and a digital marketplace. By working together in a focused manner, we can expedite the delivery of business and sustainability benefits through technology.”
Iain Minton, Technology Capability Delivery Director at BAE Systems, stated: “Collaborations like this enable us to develop and invest in digital thread technologies in a more integrated and seamless manner. Siemens understands the complexities of our operating environment, allowing us to swiftly mature ideas and implement new engineering, support, or manufacturing capabilities. The trust and understanding we have cultivated make this collaboration a powerful force in driving results for the aerospace sector.”
