Karnataka HC Orders HAL Employees to Call Off Strike

HAL had filed a writ petition in the Karnataka HC for a declaration that Union had no legal right to go on strike under Industrial Disputes Act

The High Court of Karnataka has passed an interim order on October 22 restraining the Hindustan Aeronautics Employees Association (HAEA), its office bearers/workmen from continuing their ongoing strike including go-slow, work to rule or any form of agitation or disrupting day-to-day activities of HAL and its offices in Bengaluru. The order has left no choice for the union but to immediately call-off the strike and resume the work.

The HAEA and its members are on strike since October 14, 2019, which the HAL has deemed as ‘illegal.’ The management of HAL had filed a writ petition in the High Court of Karnataka for a declaration that Union had no legal right to go on strike under Industrial Disputes Act and for a direction to call-off the strike.

HAL had earlier said it was open for discussions and conclusion of wage revision effective from 1 January 2017, saying it could be achieved only with the co-operation of the Unions based on realistic and affordable expectations /demands. The PSU had maintained the strike by the Unions would neither be in the interest of the organisation nor the employees.
