Safran Electrical & Power Recognised as Best Performer by Airbus Tianjin

Safran Electrical & Power was granted the prestigious Airbus Best Performer Award at the Airbus Supplier Awards ceremony held in Tianjin, China, on September 20.

The company was rewarded for its tremendous improvement in programme management and in solving all kinds of technical issues, as well as for establishing an open relationship built on trust and one in which commitments are honoured.

This award, endorsed by the executive committee of Airbus, acknowledges Safran’s top-level performance and engagement. Earlier in 2017, Safran Electrical & Power also received the Gold Supplier prize and the Best Improver award for Aerolec – a joint venture (60-40) between Safran Electrical and Thales – from the Airbus SQIP team, which recognises excellence in delivery and quality performance.

The expected results were achieved through effort and teamwork, recording, to date, 100 per cent on-time delivery (OTD) over the past 20 months and a quality performance maintained above the Airbus target over the same period.

“This ‘Best Performer Award’ is a great honour. We now have to make sure we keep up the good work, and strengthen all the processes to ensure that what we have achieved is maintained in the months and years ahead,” said president, Safran Electrical & Power, Alain Sauret.

All Safran Electrical & Power employees, and in particular from the Power division, which is largely considered as the driving force of the recovery plan, can be proud of their engagement and achievement. And this award is the proof of that,” said vice president & GM Power, Safran Electrical & Power, Hervé Blanc.

Safran’s WEFA System Selected for Air Cote d’Ivoire’s A320ceos

Safran Electronics & Defence announces the selection of its WEFA solution (Wireless Extension for ACMS – Aircraft Condition Monitoring System) dedicated to the capture and the transfer of flight data, on the A320ceos of its long-standing client, Air Cote d’Ivoire. The airline, already using Safran’s Cassiopée Flight Data Monitoring solution on its entire fleet, is the first in Africa to install WEFA. Air Cote d’Ivoire is also the launching airline in Africa for the A320neo, which will be equipped with the system at the end of 2019.

Head of sales and marketing in the Avionics division of Safran Electronics and Defence, Florence Minisclou said, “WEFA system meets the needs of the air transport industry, since it supplies data for preventive maintenance, flight safety improvement and enables airlines to lower their operating costs. We are delighted to work with Air Cote d’Ivoire by combining both human expertise and innovative tools to fully optimise their operations.”

Safran Electronics & Defence’s full flight data management offer is composed of the WEFA system together with Cassiopée Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) and the ACMS. It enables the airlines to receive aircraft data immediately after landing, allowing them to remotely manage their flight data using a secure 3G+ connection, and therefore immediately run investigations on air safety reports and plan maintenance operations ahead. In the extremely competitive and regulated market of flight data management, having closed the loop within two hours after landing is a considerable advantage. Furthermore, using wireless data transmission allows continuous and automated recovery of all aircraft flight data without human manipulation thereby reducing costs, delays, and risks of data loss.

Coordination manager at the Maintenance centre of Air Cote d’Ivoire, Souleymane Kone declared, “We definitely trust Safran’s automatic flight data transmission system and its reliability. The WEFA system now provides us with a fully integrated FDM chain as we can obtain data from anywhere at any time.”

Gulfstream Marks Five-Year Anniversary of G650 Type Certification

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. recently marked the five-year anniversary of the Gulfstream G650’s type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with a look back at the aircraft’s esteemed history.

Announced in March 2008, the G650 had one of business aviation’s most successful product launches, with more than 200 firm orders following the aircraft’s introduction. With a nonstop range of 5,000 nautical miles/ 9,260 kilometres at Mach 0.90 and 7,000/ 12,964 at Mach 0.85, the aircraft established its position at the top end of the business jet market, a position it retains today.

In flight test, the G650 exceeded original range projections, allowing Gulfstream to announce enhanced range of 6,000 nm/ 11,112 km at Mach 0.90. In May 2014, the company introduced the Gulfstream G650ER, an extended-range variant of the G650, with the ability to travel 6,400 nm/ 11,853 km at Mach 0.90 and 7,500/ 13,890 at Mach 0.85.

“The G650 set a new standard in business aviation, whether for its unmatched range and payload, industry-low cabin sound levels, or its award-winning four-living-area interior,” said President, Gulfstream, Mark Burns. “It has redefined what business jet operators could expect from their aircraft.”

The G650 received its FAA type certificate on 7 September 2012, and entered service on 20 December 2012. Today, more than 250 G650 and G650ER aircraft operate in 40 countries.

The G650 has become the fastest non-supersonic aircraft to circumnavigate the globe, having flown westbound around the world in a record-setting 41 hours and 7 minutes and claiming 22 city pair speed records along the way. In total, the G650 and G650ER have set 65 city-pair records.

The G650 also earned the prestigious Robert J. Collier Trophy, which is presented annually for innovation in performance, safety and efficiency of air or space vehicles.

Boeing Inaugurates Second Phase of Aerospace Engineering Facility in Bengaluru

The minister of state for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, inaugurated Boeing’s additional new facility at the Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru on September 22. The additional facility will enable Boeing to focus on state-of-the-art technology areas such as data analytics, internet-of-things, avionics, aerospace design, manufacturing, testing and research, to support Boeing products and systems, more efficiently in India, and around the world. The centre also includes laboratories for research to support next-gen innovations in aerospace.

With this expansion, Boeing has nearly doubled its existing facility in Bengaluru. The number of engineers will also double by the end of 2017. “Boeing’s commitment to growth of capability and capacity in the Indian aerospace sector is commendable,” said Sinha. “I congratulate the team on this brand new addition to the Boeing India Engineering and Technology Centre and am proud that Boeing is leveraging India’s engineering talent and its expertise for some of the most advanced aerospace products in the world, and developing complex solutions for the world.”

This significant expansion comes soon after Boeing opened its engineering centre in January earlier this year, demonstrating Boeing’s commitment to building an innovative, and world-class, competitive aerospace ecosystem in India. “As a source for innovative and cutting-edge engineering, India offers us tremendous growth potential,” said President, Boeing India, Pratyush Kumar. “This is a winning formula for India and our own global growth strategy for improved productivity, enhanced engineering efficiency and cost advantage, while focusing on quality.”

Recently, Boeing announced a partnership with Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air India Engineering Services Ltd. (AIESL) to develop an Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Accelerated Apprenticeship Program. The key objective of the programme is to improve the employability of AMEs through training and hands-on experience with actual aircraft. Boeing’s other contributions to the industry include software tools that are used to support efficient airspace management and decongestion at Indian airports. In addition to developing engineering capabilities, Boeing is also actively involved in developing skills across the aviation sector by partnering with leading Indian vocational training institutes, industrial training institutes and Indian partners, to train workers for the aerospace industry.
