US Congressional Delegation Visits Western Naval Command

Issues of mutual interest such as Indo-US relations, bilateral naval cooperation and maritime security were discussed.

The US Congressional House Committee on Armed Services led by US Congressman Robert Wittman, visited the Western Naval Command on August 24. Wittman, who is also Chairman of Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, was accompanied by Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo and US Consul General in Mumbai, Edgard Kagan.

The nine member delegation interacted with Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding–in-Chief, Western Naval Command and was also briefed on the Western Naval Command and the Indian Navy’s operations on the Western Seaboard. Issues of mutual interest such as Indo-US relations, bilateral naval cooperation and maritime security were discussed.

The delegation also undertook a windshield tour of the Naval Dockyard at Mumbai and visited the indigenously built newly commissioned Kolkata class destroyer INS Chennai.
