Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) demonstrated the depth of its R&D capabilities through a range of newly-developed products. One of the main attractions at its stand at Aero India was Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS)/Air Defence Weapon System for the 12.7 mm air defence gun on Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun Mk II.

The RCWS was unveiled on the inaugural day of the show by chairman and managing director BEL, M.V. Gowtama. The system is an improvised version of the manually operated air defence gun. This new weapon control system allows the gunner to operate the air defence gun from the safe interiors of the battle tank. It enables the soldier to aim and fire at aerial targets by a remote access which controls the air defence gun. The RCWS integrated on MBT Mk II has successfully completed tank integration and firing trials in September 2015.
