President confers Gallantry Awards to IAF personnel
 
Gursevek Singh Corporal Gursevek Singh, Indian Air Force (Security) was deployed as Special Forces operative at an Indian Air Force (IAF) Garud Special Forces Unit since 30 September 2013. He was inducted for special operations at Air Force Station Pathankot as part of a Garud team on the evening of 1 January 2016.

On 2 January 2016, during search operations, he observed a group of terrorists and moved quickly to intercept them. In the process, his team came under intense hostile fire from four terrorists, in which one of his team members was grievously injured. Corporal Gursevek Singh, along with his buddy officer, engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of fire. During the course of the assault, he suffered three severe gunshot wounds. His brave resistance under fire, without regard to his personal safety, resulted in the terrorists being contained at the same spot for more than 25 minutes till the arrival of reinforcements.

For this act of exceptional gallantry, Corporal Gursevek Singh was awarded Shaurya Chakra (posthumous).

Bhavesh Kumar Dubey Squadron Leader Bhavesh Kumar Dubey Administration/Air Traffic Controller is the Commanding Officer of an Indian Air Force Special Forces Unit since 6 May 2013. On 2 January 2016, he was leading a Squad of IAF Special Forces for a search operation at Air Force Station, Pathankot. UAV contact with four suspects was reported to him at about 0245 hrs inside MES Yard. While searching the area, his team came under intense hostile fire from the terrorists, in which one of his team members was grievously injured. Despite a gunshot wound on the right thigh, he led from the front and along with his buddies, continued to fight with four terrorists at extremely close range. He continued to lead his troops till the conclusion of the operation on 7 January 2016. For the act of exceptional courage, Squadron Leader Bhavesh Kumar Dubey has been awarded Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry).

Abhishek Singh Tanwar Squadron Leader Abhishek Singh Tanwar Flying (Pilot) is on the posted strength of a Sukhoi-30 MKI Squadron since 14 July 2014 as Sqn Pilot. On 6 January 2016, Sqn Ldr AS Tanwar was authorised to fly a valley flying sortie as No. 2. During the sortie, the pilot experienced multiple failures in quick succession while in the valley with difficult terrain all around. He took correct actions and set course towards base for a priority recovery. Despite experiencing multiple emergencies of dire nature, displaying exceptional courage, Sqn Ldr AS Tanwar calmly assessed the situation and reacted in a controlled manner while remaining with the aircraft. His prompt and correct actions prevented a Category-I accident and saved the valuable aircraft.

For this act of exceptional courage, Squadron Leader Abhishek Singh Tanwar has been awarded Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry)
