SSB intensifies its campaign against Naxals

Personnel of 8th SSB Battalion, Gaya, Bihar in a joint operation with local Bihar Police, destroyed about one acre poppy cultivation at Hahasari village under Barachatti Police station of Gaya district of Bihar on 14 February 2017. It is reported that Naxals are cultivating poppy in the forest, hilly, far-flung and remote localities of Naxal affected areas. They use the income generated from poppy cultivation to finance their anti-social and anti-national activities. They also use income from that to procure sophisticated arms, ammunitions and war gears. Considering this Naxal strategy, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been destroying poppy cultivation for a long time. It has destroyed about 150 acres of poppy cultivation in Gaya district of Bihar in 2016. In January and February 2017 the force destroyed about 79 acres of poppy cultivation in Gaya district itself.

In its incessant campaigns to defeat Naxal strategy, personnel of 6th SSB Battalion, Jamui, Bihar in a joint operation with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local Bihar police arrested a notorious Naxal, Jethu Mahto, from his village Mahigro on 14 February 2017. One country-made rifle, two detonators, two Neogel sticks and heaps of naxal literature were sized from his possession.

So far 45 Naxals have surrendered before SSB, which guards Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders as well as operates in anti-Naxal operations in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
