We Are Here to Create Fit-For-Purpose Training Capabilities for India and Not Just to Sell Straight Off the Shelf

What capabilities do you have in the area of training and simulation tools?
Simulation covers three dimensions - live, virtual and constructive (LVC) environments. The live domain consists of real people using real equipment but having simulated effects on each other. Typically, that would be a tactical engagement simulation capability. For example, we have a counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) system where a trainee will use a metal detector and on it we place a metal detector sensor which monitors height, speed, sweep, swoop and effectiveness of the detector so that we can provide vital feedback to an individual during and after a training serial to show how proficient they were.

In the virtual domain, we produce products such as driving simulators, flight simulators, forward air control training systems and small arms firing simulators. In our case we call this small arms virtual indoor trainer (SAVIT).

The constructive domain generally focuses on training headquarters’ elements. We have a product called Deployable Command and Staff Trainer (DCAST) which enables customers to practice and evaluate their command as well as control, plan and order processes.

We are also able to integrate systems via an inter-operability gateway that we have developed called WISE. This enables customers to join systems in order to utilise all the training capabilities available to them. For instance, a synthetic feed for an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can be injected into a remote terminal for use by the commander on the ground in the live environment.

Training is progressive and centres on how you want to train your personnel to be able to perform effectively in an operational environment. Simulation is a key enabler in preparing individuals and units for that task. Saab also has a significant offering in range target and range control systems.
