We are Augmenting Our In-House Resources to Meet the Offset Requirement in the EW and Airborne Radar Areas for the MMRCA Programme

What is the update on BEL’s expected work share and areas of focus in the MMRCA (RAFALE) and FGFA (Sukhoi T-50) programme?
BEL’s areas of focus in the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) programme are Air Borne Radar, Electronic Warfare (EW) suite, Communication and Avionics. BEL is in advanced stage of discussions with Thales who are the Tier I vendor of OEM Dassault Aviation. Under this programme, BEL expects to get at least 50 per cent work share in the electronics domain. For the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FFGFA) (Sukhoi T-50) programme, BEL is focusing on the EW suite.

What is the latest on BEL’s contribution to the P-8I programme?
For the P-8I programme, BEL is supplying Identification Friend or Foe Interrogator (IFFI), Radar Finger Printing System and Data Link.

What is BEL’s role in the MiG-29, Sukhoi Super 30, Jaguar and Mirage 2000 upgrade programmes?
For the MiG-29, Sukhoi and Jaguar programmes, BEL is supplying Radar Warning Receiver. BEL is working with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the development of new generation EW suite for MiG-29, Su-30 and Jaguar. For Mirage 2000, BEL is targeting to be an offset partner for Thales and take up the manufacture of Airborne Radar and EW suite.

What is the progress on the Akash missile system for the Indian Air Force? What are the milestones scheduled for next year?
BEL has received two orders for Akash Weapon System. The first order for two squadrons is worth Rs 1,221 crore while the second order for six squadrons is worth Rs 3,618 crore. As far as the first squadron, which is planned to be commissioned by end of October 2012, is concerned, the first firing unit has already been cleared and positioned for commissioning. The second firing unit has also been cleared and is being moved for commissioning. The Partial missiles have already been delivered and the remaining will be delivered shortly. In the case of the second squadron, all the deliverables have been cleared except for 3D Central Acquisition Radar (CAR) and missiles. As far as the second order for six squadrons is concerned, delivery of first squadron will be completed by June 2013. BEL is planning to complete all deliveries by March 2013.
