Our vision is to ensure that the Indian Navy successfully and consistently functions as the key enabler to secure and promote our national interests, particularly, in the maritime domain. As our nation seeks to fulfil the legitimate aspirations of our people as manifested by the prevalent pace of growth and development, the Indian Navy shall ensure a secure maritime environment, which is an essential ingredient for the safety of every individual citizen and our collective economic progress.

Our geo-strategic environment and our response to the prevalent security challenges have ensured that India’s role, in enhancing peace and security in the Indian Ocean Region, has been widely recognised. In this context, it is intended that the Indian Navy will retain its pre-eminent role as an effective instrument of state policy.

The course that we intend to steer is to proactively address the prevalent and emerging concerns. These include addressing threats that could emanate from the seas, terrorism, coastal security, protection of our seaborne trade and shipping, humanitarian assistance for disaster relief, safeguarding our national resources at sea, energy security and security of energy and other similarly diverse challenges.
Towards this end, we are committed to build and maintain a world class navy capable of meeting our nation’s needs. This involves force structure planning, doctrine development and proactive maintenance and project implementation. We intend to balance our resources and cultivate our human capital in consonance with a strategy that will prove to be responsive through the full range of blue and brown water operations, against both state and non-state actors, across the full spectrum of conflict.
