‘Aero India Was an Excellent Opportunity for us to Showcase our Latest, State-of-the-Art Products and Technologies’
Resident manager India, business development, Elettronica S.p.A, Paolo Izzo.
What was Elettronica’s experience at Aero India 2011? What kind of response did you manage to get from the Indian users?
Aero India was an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our latest, state-of-the-art products and technologies. It also gave us an opportunity to meet several very senior officials from the ministry of defence, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as well as from the Indian defence industry, both in the public and the private sector. I must add here that the event was very well organised and there was substantial presence of the international companies and delegates. Because of this, we were able to meet up with executives from other companies.

We also used the opportunity thrown by Aero India to organise a seminar with Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE) before the Show in Bangalore in which we presented technical papers on our state-of-the-art technology pertaining to Net-Centric
Electronic Warfare (EW) and information warfare, as well as airborne EW. This Seminar gave us an opportunity to listen to some interesting papers presented by other organisations and companies.

From our perspective, the best thing that I gathered from Aero India is the impression that the Indian Government is keen to expand the defence industrial complex in India. From the speeches of defence minister A.K. Antony and minister of state for defence M.M. Pallam Raju, it appears that while the government wants to increase the productivity of the public sector, it is willing to give a greater role to the Indian private industry as well as the global companies. Even the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik, emphasised that the Indian Air Force (IAF) needed the technological edge. For us, these messages are very important as we are a company dedicated entirely to EW. Incidentally, in 2011, Elettronica completes 60 years of existence, and today we are ranked as the fourth largest EW company in the world in terms of sheer business volume. An appreciation in India of our capabilities is very heartening.
