BEL Launches Next Gen Communication Radio set

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) unveiled its new communication radio for the Indian armed forces - STARS-V Mk III - at Aero India 2017. It is completely designed, developed and made by BEL.

STARS-V Mk III is a state-of-the-art, Next Generation, Multi-band, High Data Rate, software intensive IP radio with Mobile Adhoc Networking (MANET) functionality supporting up to 64 nodes. The radio works in wide frequency band in the V/UHF range of 30-512 MHz and supports Frequency Hopping (FH) and Fixed Frequency (FF) modes of operation with built-in-high-grade digital voice and data secrecy. The radio is built with the latest state-of-the-art hardware using DSP and FPGA.

This new radio is backward compatible with the legacy STARS-V Mk II radio in clear, secure and frequency hopping modes of operation. The radio is designed as a 10W manpack transceiver. It comes with built-in encryption, GPS Receiver, Ethernet interface and is password protected.

The MANET network is self-forming, self-healing and supports network throughput up to 1 Mbps and does not require any Base station or infrastructure required for setting up of the network.

Unique features of the Radio include state-of-the-art technology-based ruggedised hardware, in-house developed robust algorithms and waveforms, re-configurable software modules, frequency hopping (ECCM), emergency self-erasure, user friendly NMS application, robust connectivity for network-centric operations in tactical battlefield condition, simultaneous voice, data and video services and transfer of situational awareness across network.
