Soldiers Buy Duplicate Medals from the Market as the Armed Forces Face Shortage
Soldiers Buy Duplicate Medals from the Market New Delhi: According to the reports, Indian armed forces are facing the shortage in supply of service medals to its personnel which has forced some of the soldiers to buy the replicas from the market. Only a handful of medals have been officially issued over the last 7-8 years while over 10 lakhs are still pending. While there is no shortage in the gallantry medals, shortfall is in regard to the various other bravery and service medals.

The difference between original and duplicate medals available in the market is only minor. The original would have the soldier’s name and service number engraved on them.

Reports also pointed to the fact that there were financial constraints which lead to the non-availability of the medals. Defence minister Manohar Parrikar has sought a report to look into this matter.
