When Three Femme Musketeers Flew Over the Bay of Bengal

For the first time in the history, an all-lady-crew were handed the responsibility of guarding the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone along the East Coast as well as the sensitive International Maritime Boundary Line. This region is very dangerous and infamous for smuggling, poaching and human trafficking. The crew comprising Deputy Commandants Akshi, Sunita Venugopal and Priyanka Tyagi flew the Dornier from the Coast Guard Station at Chennai in the last week of December. It was a reconnaissance mission that scanned the coast line and Exclusive Economic Zone ranging from south of Visakhapatnam to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. The total area that the trio recced was 700 nautical miles.
