Tata Power SED Wins Order for Supply of Command Post and Launcher of Pinaka MRLS

Tata Power’s Strategic Engineering Division (Tata Power SED) has received an order from, ministry of defence, government of India for the supply of one regiment of Command Post and Launcher of Pinaka Multi Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) to Indian Army. The order worth over Rs 200 crore includes supply of 20 Launchers and eight command posts.

Pinaka Weapon System is one of the first ‘Create in India’ product designed and developed by Indian private industry in association with Armament Research and Development Establishment (DRDO). While this is a remarkable testimony to government of India’s ‘Make in India’ campaign in true spirits, it also provides end-user (Indian Army) an option having faster upgrades, technology refreshes, reduced repair downtime and complete in-country lifecycle support. Tata Power SED had delivered one regiment of Pinaka Launcher and Command Post in the period of 2006 – 2010, which was then inducted in the army.

On receipt of the prestigious order, Rahul Chaudhry, CEO, Tata Power SED said that “Tata Power SED is proud to be part of successful development of one of the first ‘Create in India’ products. Being an Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for this prestigious indigenous system gives us immense pleasure and we take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for giving us the opportunity to be a partner in its development. After the success of Pinaka, we remain committed to succeed in other Weapon System Development Programs with DRDO which we are already working on.”

Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System Pinaka is an area weapon system which supplements the existing artillery gun at ranges beyond 30 km, and has a quick reaction time and high rate of fire. Its success has been well documented during Kargil conflict and has earned the confidence of our Indian armed forces.
