Thales Enthrals the Royal Navy with a Latest Surveillance Programme

Giving more sharpness in their existing Royal Navy’s airborne surveillance strata, Thales and Lockheed Martin planned to infuse the new airborne surveillance and control system, under the ‘Crowsnest’ programme.

Lockheed Martin, being the ministry of defence’s (MoD) prime contractor for the Merlin helicopter, selected a new generation of the Thales Search water radar and Cerberus mission system. These systems are designed to be fitted in the existing Merlin Mk2s helicopters, providing the navy with an airborne surveillance and control capability (ASaC). The proposed contract will embark manufacturing and designing of role-fit equipment to be fitted to the fleet of Merlin helicopters, which are going to be in the Royal Navy’s fleet by replacing contemporary Sea King Mark 7 ASaC force.
