Future Trends A curtain-raiser interaction was held recently in New Delhi to lay out a roadmap for an international seminar on ‘Building India’s Future Navy: Technology Imperatives’. Speaking at the event, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition (CWP&A), Indian Navy, Vice Admiral D.M. Deshpande AVSM, VSM stressed that the Indian Navy is working relentlessly towards transforming its ship-building, aviation and underwater capabilities by leveraging the technology and research as force multipliers.

The seminar is being organised in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and would provide a common platform to explore and debate on disruptive technologies and its doctrinal impact in shaping the future of the Indian Navy. The two-day seminar will be held from May 31 to June 1 in New Delhi.

Vice Admiral Deshpande said that the navy is emphasising on indigenisation and has identified areas for cooperation while actively seeking the involvement and participation of industry, academia and defence research laboratories.

He said that the navy has been at the vanguard in promoting indigenous design and construction of warships and equipment for many years. The process of achieving self-reliance in the navy is extremely complex and requires active participation from many stakeholders across industries, both private and public, academia, R&D establishments, etc.
