What key technologies and systems would you be showcasing at DefExpo 2016?
Our Power Systems division — MTU will be displaying their products at DefExpo under the theme of ‘MTU – the perfect match.’ This claim embodies MTU’s aspiration of offering the best propulsion and/or power system tailored to its customers varied operational needs.

Land Defence: MTU 6V 199 TE 21 Engine have established themselves in various armoured vehicles, including an order for the delivery of 589 MTU Series 199 diesel engines for use in the new SCOUT Specialist Vehicle (SV) for the British Army. The 6V 199 TE21 engine has been offered for use in the Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) project of the Indian Army, which is meant to replace the ageing Russian ICV BMP-2 fleet.

MTU Euro PowerPack is a high-performance drive system was developed for the third generation of main battle tanks (MBTs) over 60 tons. The EuroPowerPack with MTU MT 883 Ka 501 engine & Renk HSWL 295 transmission has been offered for the Indian Army’s Future Main Battle Tank (FMBT), which will be a 50 t category state-of-the-art medium tank.

Marine Defence: MTU 20V 8000 M71L engine is also on display. MTU Series 8000 engines have established themselves as the leading choice for navies all over the world. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard put trust in the Series 8000 engine in their most modern Offshore Patrol Vessels.

MTU 12V 4000 U83 is a diesel genset for submarines that produces 1,300 kW. The MTU Series 4000 genset is suitable for use in the future Project 75i submarines of the Indian Navy.

What aspect of your business is your primary focus at this show, and why?
This year at DefExpo we will continue to focus on Rolls-Royce’s partnership and our strong commitment for the Indian market. However, for Rolls-Royce all businesses are equal priority sectors. At the core of our programmes is technology. In 2015, we invested GBP 1.2bn in gross R&D. It is this investment that creates the intellectual property we then develop and embed in our products. Over 15,690 engineers ensure that we benefit from the knowledge of renowned experts in their fields, and get the best value from our investment.

What are your expectations from the show?
We have been present in India for the past eight decades and have been contributing to the development and modernisation of Indian armed forces. We believe that DefExpo is an important platform to showcase our capabilities and also network with our customers, partners etc.
