LoC Scanners Stuck in Bureaucratic Transition

The National Investigative Agency (NIA) is investigating the barter trading route along the Kashmir border for illicit transport of weapons and money. The right checks and balances are not in place as the Finance ministry, Defence ministry and Ministry of Home Affairs have been not able to find common ground about the purchase of container scanners that can check for weapons and other illegal items.

The India-Pakistan duty free barter trade has been in place since 2008. Gross violations of tonnage and container content is suspected to siphon off money, which then finances terror activities. Also, incorrect declaration of items and import of third-country goods is also happening.
